'Virus' is not just a sequel to 'Vector'. It also shows that Haken are still growing and evolving, but have found their own basic sound signature. Prog rock and prog metal fans will love 'Virus' and even newcomers to Haken will be impressed by soundscapes that are certainly not off the shelf. This 'Virus' is a virus you want get infected with.
CD review STYGIAN CROWN ‘Stygian Crown’
'Stygian Crown' is a strong debut album, a longplayer that is a statement. These guys came to stay. Modern epic doom metal has to sound exactly like the quintet celebrates it for almost an hour on this album. Very strong.
CD review MADHOUSE ‘Braindead’
Madhouse from Hamburg are a metal band which was already active in the late '80s. However, you can't find more than a few demos and local achievements in the metal archives with the year of 1991 being the definite end. It got quiet in madhouse. 23 years later the door to the madhouse was opened... Continue Reading →
CD review LOUISE LEMÓN ‘Devil’ – EP
Louise Lemón, the queen of death gospel, that's how the Swedish singer, who presents with 'Devil' a new EP these days, sees herself. 'Death' in this context has nothing to do though with death metal and isn't a weird crossover attempt either. The term 'death' in a context of wistfulness and melacholia matches the sound... CD review VAMPIRE ‘Rex’
If the third album is still the deciding factor for the future development of a band remains open, but the past shows that these albums are at least a kind of indicator. Gothenburg's Vampire are approaching this crossroads with 'Rex'. Founded in 2011 the band of Command, Hand Of Doom, Black String, Abysmal Condor and... Continue Reading →
CD review EXHUMED & GRUESOME ‘Twisted Horror’
Exhumed and Gruesome have teamed up with Relapse Records to release a new split CD. 'Twisted Horror' is the name of the release and includes three new Exhumed songs plus two musical bone crushers by Gruesome. As not expected differently Exhumed push the pedal to the metal. Deep growls, skull splitting riffs and an overall... Continue Reading →
CD review ANDY SUSEMIHL ‘Burning Man’
Andy Susemihl looks back on a long career in the rock business. Born in Ulm, Germany, the musician first appeared as a guitarist on Sinner's 'Dangerous Charm' album in 1987 and since then has been steadily built up his reputation through many musical projects and contributions. Susemihl's latest creation is called 'Burning Man', with 30... Continue Reading →
CD review -(16)- ‘Dream Squasher’
'Dream Squasher' is not for the faint-hearted. Extremely down-tuned guitars create a wall of riffs in grey and cold concrete. This album is a musical monolith that can't be discovered after listening to it. 'Dream Squasher' needs several rounds to unfold its intensity and musical creativity. And after that a little bit of sunlight is surely not bad either.
CD review ENTORX ‘Faceless Insanity’
Today we will dig our way into the underground of German heavy metal and discover a band from Speyer that was previously undiscovered by me - Entorx. The guys started the band in 2009 and a first tangible result could be reported in 2011. 'Theta Waves' is the name of the first release, an EP.... Continue Reading →
CD review ANCILLOTTI ‘Hell on Earth’
The first time my attention was directed towards Anchillotti was when the band performed at the Heavy Metal Maniacs festival 2015 in The Netherlands. With their traditional heavy metal the four Italians knew how to impress the audience. At that time the guys had just released their debut 'The Chain Goes On' and everything still... CD review FM ‘Synchronized’
All in all we can conclude that FM is releasing with 'Synchronized' another good longplayer that is going to make melodic rock fans feel happy. Smooth melodies, a cool groove and catchy hooks are the foundation for an album that is easy to listen to. A summertime soundtrack that comes right in time.
CD review FROST* ‘Others’
Frost* in May, but no worries, it is not a climatic phenomena. Frost*, the band, releases with 'Others' a new EP which is actually not that new. Jem Godfrey and his band mates have recorded six tracks, which are left overs from their 'Falling Satellites' session. Initially, the 2016 released album was planned as a... Continue Reading →
CD review SUBSIGNAL ‘A Song for the Homeless – Live in Rüsselsheim 2019’
The German prog rockers from Subsignal are releasing their first live album 'A Song for the Homeless - Live in Rüsselsheim 2019' these days. The album is based on a concert the band played on March 28, 2019 in Rüsselsheim, Germany. After six studio albums, Arno Menses, Markus Steffen, Ralf Schwager, Markus Maichel and Dirk... CD review MIKE LEPOND’S SILENT ASSASSINS ‘Whores of Babylon’
Mike Lepond and his enthusiastic band mates show once again how well done and powerful heavy metal should sound. Without losing the basic structures, LePond gives this album so many twists and turns that you want to press the start button again.
CD review SORCERER ‘Lamenting Of The Innocent’
That Swedes can compose and play doom metal is nothing new. After all, it was Candlemass who released with 'Nightfall' a reference album which is still the benchmark for every doom metal band today. Piece by piece it is now their Swedish compatriots from Sorcerer who are getting closer to this milestone album. Sorcerer is... Continue Reading →
