CD review AXEL RUDI PELL ‘XXX Anniversary Live’

(*/10) Although Axel Rudi Pell’s debut ‘Wild Obsession’ belongs to the highlights in German metal, it wasn’t a given at the time that 30 years later we still can enjoy the powerful riffs of the the blonde guitarist from the Ruhrgebiet.

Axel Rudi Pell became a very constant factor in a fast changing world. His music is an anchor point that keeps a spirit alive, a vibe of Rock that survived generations of rock. The guitarist never went crazy more than with his fabulous guitar play. He never put himself too much into the spotlight, more focussing on his guitar with a humble mindset. He is a musician that becomes one with the instrument and celebrates songs rather than playing notes.

Together with a stable line-up, featuring frontman Johnny Gioeli, Fredy Doemberg, Volker Krawcak and Bobby Rondinelli, the guitarist embarked on a tour last year and routine recordings were that good that a release was the consequence. The shows in Bochum and Budapest are the base for this live album, a release that covers all phases of Pell’s impressive discography. Furthermore the album comes with a great and authentic sound.

It’s not that there aren’t any live albums of Axel Rudi Pell available, still it’s always a pleasure to hear from the sympathetic guitarist from Bochum.
