(7/10) Gothenburg-based Armory is a metal powerhouse that grew out of the ashes of a band called Resurrector. The guys debut with an album entitled ‘World Peace … Cosmic War’ and now it’s time for second strike of Swedish speed metal.
‘The Search’, that’s the title of Armory’s sophomore record, features an eleven songs-comprising tracklist, being a conceptual continuation of the debut. Was the debut about mankind directing their aggressiveness towards outer space it’ the new album that addresses the effect and consequences of a search for other lifeforms in the infinite universe. The album gives some inspiration for own thoughts, which makes it even more fun.
From a musical perspective Armory are 100% trend-free. This album doesn’t care about ongoing trends and popular metal styles. Armory’s album features oldschool speed metal that reminded me of the early Blind Guardian and I also had to think of Paradox while listening to songs like the glorious ‘Rise Above’.
‘The Search’ is an uncompromising album with furious leads, great vocal lines and a rhythm-section that provides a robust base for excellent metal tunes. ‘The Search’ is an aural assault with songs that are mainly blazing fast. Still there are enough twists weaved in to create excitement from start to end.
Armory’s second delivery became a well-crafted oldschool speed metal album, done by a band that’s young and hungry. This album can lead to severe neck-issues due to intensive headbanging.
