CD review FARGO ‘Constellation’

(7/10) Cosmic constellation seems to be quite good for Fargo and their new endeavour. It was Peter ‘Frago Pedda’ Knorn, also known from bands like Victory, who wrote a book, looking back to his career as musician, producer and label manager. This retrospect included the days with Fargo in the 70’s and early 80’s and it brought up the question of how Fargo would sound today. Fargo was well-known these days and the line-up even included Scorpions guitarist Matthias Jabs for a certain period. Could the transfer this vibe into the here and now?

One thing came to another and it’s ‘Constellation’ that sees the light of day 36 years after their latest record ‘F’ has been released. Knorn and singer/guitarist Peter Ladwig are two founding members that are part of nowadays line-up and it’s Nikolas Firtz (Mob Rules) and Arndt Schultz completing Frago in 2018. Fargo is back.

‘Constellation’ features well-crafted hard rock songs with a strong blues reference. ZZ Top (‘Loser Blues’), Whitesnake (‘Buzz Buzz’) and Lynyrd Skynryd (‘Cross the Bear’) are just some of the bands that came to my mind while listening to Fargo’s newest strike. Mentioning ‘Buzz Buzz’ means also to mention that former drummer Frank Tolle is part of the album too. He contributed with his drumming to the mention blues rocker and to ‘Don’ Talk’ – two highlights of this record.

Frago uses all the experience that comes with each musicians to create an exciting rock album that has some moments of surprise. Nobody would have expected the swinging reggae-vibe of ‘Goddess of Destiny’. Although the song is different from the rest of the album it still fits into the context of ‘Constellation’. Great work.

‘Constellation’ became a longplayer that is as rocking as it comes with gentle melodies and great hooks. Like mentioned earlier: Fargo is back after three and a half decades of absence. Welcome back guys.
