CD review QUIET RIOT ‘One Night in Milan’

(7/10) ‘One Night in Milan’ isn’t the first Frontiers Music live release that was recorded in the Italian metropol and I guess it will not be the last one either.

This time it’s hard rock veterans Quiet Riot that played a show at Frontiers Rock festival 2018, a show that has been recorded and is now available as CD. Unbelievable but true, it was Quiet Riot’s first concert in Italy and it’s more the nostalgic vibe that makes this rock’n’roll party to one of the better ones.

The set, played in Milan, is mainly built around the ‘Metal Health’ album, Quiet Riot’s biggest success. Songs like the title track, but also ‘Run for Cover’ and ‘Let’s Get Crazy’ are timeless hard rocking songs and it doesn’t surprise either that the show also included two Slade cover version. The biggest achievement Quiet Riot could score is their interpretation of Slade’s ‘Cum on Feel the Noize’, a highlight placed towards the end of the set.

What got bit into the background is the latest ‘Road Rage’ release, which includes some pretty good songs too. It’s espacially the two songs of the latest longplayer that show the potential of frontman James Durbin. Not only that the guy has a great voice, he also adds a lot of energy to the band that next to Durbin also consits of original members (Frankie Banali (d) and Chuck Wright (b)) while it’s Alex Grossi handling the six-string guitar.

‘One Night in Milan’ is not more, but also not less, than a well-done live release of a band that had its peak many years ago. Still good rock’n’roll though and a good party soundtrack.
