CD review BONFIRE ‘Live on Holy Ground – Wacken 2018’

(*/10) German melodic metallers Bonfire have a next live album right in the starting blocks. It’s certainly not the first live album the guys from Bavaria releases and it might not be the last one either. However, it’s the first one that captures a show the band played at the legendary Wacken festival.

Bonfire performed a show at the famous open air spectacle in 2018 and it was an oldschool setlist that has been executed. The core of the show was the band’s bestselling longplayer ‘Fireworks’ and songs like ‘Ready 4 Reaction’ and ‘Sweet Obsession’ clearly states why this album was an all-time high of the Bonfire. Furthermore it’s the ‘Don’t Touch the Light’, being another highlight in the band’s history and the retro journey features with ‘S.D.I.’ another classic of Hans Ziller & Co..

Focusing on the early Bonfire days shows the greatness of the band in the second half of the ‘80s, a strength they recently picked-up again with new studio albums. ‘Live on Holy Ground – Wacken 2018’ is a nice way to spend 60 minutes, indulging oneself in days when Metal went strong.
