Power Metal legends Vicious Rumors released with ‚Digital Dictator‘ a milestone album with songs that are still as relevant as they were in 1988 when the sophomore longplayer saw the light of day. Inspired by the 30th anniversary of the album, Vicious Rumors embarked on a tour which includes the entire album as first set of a two sets show. Main man Geoff Thorpe and drummer Larry Howe represent the ‘Digital Dictator’-line up and it’s guys like Gunnar DüGrey, Cody Green and for sure Nick Courtney that add the spirit of youth to the band. This mixes seems to work extremely well. The smaller of the two rooms at Gebr. De Nobel is well visited the moment the quintet starts into their show. Enthusiasm rises from the very first moment and Leiden is hungry for more. The quintet ignites a metal fireworks, although I must say that they had a good sound that included some room for improvement. Anyhow. Great songs, great Metal, great vibe – 100% Metal spirit.
Vicious Rumors has two bands as guests/support on this tour. The opener is German Melodic Power Metal outfit Magistarium. The guys deliver a very solid performance with a bassplayer that takes the partime role of a barkeeper, sharing small bottles of booze with the fans.
Swedish Metal traditionalist Air Raid has the middle slot. Also these guys do their best to get everybody into the right mood for the main act with a set that puts the focus on the 2017 release ‘Across the Line’ and has with ‘Rising Star’ a well-done cover version of the Yngwie Malmsteen classic in place.
