LP review VANDENBERG’s MOONKINGS ‘Rugged and Unplugged’

(8/10) Former Whitesnake guitarist Adrian Vandenberg started with Vandenberg’s Moonkings in 2013 and since then two longplayers have seen the light of day. Both albums include great rock music. It’s Vandenberg’s excellent guitar play that fuels the songs with power and it’s Jan Hoving contributing with his great voice, giving the songs even more energetic depth. Last but not least it is Mart Nijen-Es (d) and Sem Christoffel (b) completing the line-up.

After having released the ‘MK II’ album in 2017 it’s an acoustic release that arrives at the record stores today. Vandenberg’s Moonkings stripped-down things to the essence and the title ‘Rugged and Unplugged’ shows already the intention of the album. This release is an acoustic one, featuring eight songs.

Songs like ‘Breathing’ from the debut have been re-arranged and are shining new and bright in an acoustic version. Next to the Vandenberg’s Moonkings songs, it’s also a heart-warming version of ‘Burning Heart’ that adds another intimate moment to this peaceful release.

Fans of the Dutch guitarist as well as fans of very well-crafted rock music, in general, will love this album that I can fully recommend. It adds peace and harmony to a distracted outside world.
