CD review BACK TO EDEN ‚Blackened Heart‘

(7/10) Back To Eden is the brainchild of Australian guitarist Edan Hoy who teamed up with singer Aliz Kasim back in 2016. The result of this fruitful cooperation is an EP, entitled ‘Blackened Heart’. The disc features five song that take you back into the ‘golden age’ of metal; meaning the mid 80’s.

‘Blackened Heart’ is an album that fuses traditional metal and a modern sound. The best two songs that result out of the effort are the first two tunes on this EP. ‘Temptation’ and ‘Twin Flame’ are great metal tracks, reminding of bands like Dio, Steeler (the German band) and Dokken. Melody and heaviness are well balanced and it’s the smashing riffs spreading a real 80’s vibe. The closer ‘Devil in Disguise’ is of the same kind even though it isn’t as stunning as the first two track.

The title track is more of a calmer 80’s metal power ballad, that doesn’t wow but also doesn’t hurt and it is the gloomy ‘Illusion’, which is the weaker spot on this five songs tracklist. I couldn’t find my way into this songs and for sure it can’t compete with ‘Temptation’ and ‘Twin Flames’.

‘Blackened Heart’ is an interesting EP from Down Under. I can recommend this disc to fans of traditional metal and if it’s only for the first two songs. I guess you will like it.
