CD review ACE MAFIA ‘Ace Mafia’

(8/10) Ace Mafia is a hard rock band, hailing from the UK. The band was founded by Geos Letona and it was now less the current Judas Priest axeman Richie Faulkner that played with Ace Mafia for several years. In March 2010 the band’s debut ‘Vicious Circle’ was released, supported by some live shows.

Faulkner joined Judas Priest in 2011 but wasn’t quitting Ace Mafia. However the band went on a hiatus which ended in the beginning of 2018 when the band decided that it’s time for some more Ace Mafia.

Mid-September, the band launches a new EP, comprising of four songs. It’s the basic quartet (Lundy, Ghibli, Sadowski and Goes) plus Richie Faulkner on lead- and rhythm guitar that did this four track release and actually it’s not bad stuff at all you get with this 12”.

‘Snakes ‘N’ Ladders’ was unveiled already earlier and is a cool rocking hardrock track with a bit of a post grunge expression. Even though ‘Face To Face’ begins with a piano section, the song isn’t a ballad. The calmer moments in the verse build up to a gentle rocking chorus. A well-ctrafted song.

‘Stop Loss’ is slower and heavier than the first two songs and ‘Breathlessness’ follows a similar route.

Of course it’s the name of Richie Faulkner that acts as a magnet that pulls attention to Ace Mafia. However, the band has more to offer, since the four tracks on this EP are well-done rock music you want to give more than one spin only.
