Review CROWBAR ‘Zero and Below’
Sludge metal pioneers Crowbar recently announced a new album which is always a very welcomed news. Kirk Windstein started the band in 1990 in New Orleans and ‘Zero and Below’ is the 12th delivery from the American quartet. The new album contains ten songs, all equipped with the typical Crowbar trademarks. There are the typical... Continue Reading →
Review CELESTE ‘Assassine(s)’
Celeste is a band, hailing from Lyon, France. The quartet isn’t a newcomer since Celeste has already five longplayers under their belt. What might bring a bit more attention to their music and sound is, that the band inked a deal with Nuclear Blast. Such a cooperation might open doors for the four guys from... Continue Reading →
Review SUNCZAR ‘Bearer of Light’
If you take a piece of Crowbar, a bit of Corrosion Of Conformity and a touch of Kyuss, then you inevitably end up with Sunczar. The mentioned bands are certainly not unknown to the quartet from Germany and influences are definitely recognizable. After a foundation in 2019, the guys had with 'The Unveiling' a first... Review TRANSPORT LEAGUE ‘Kaiserschnitt’
Swedish heavy rockers Transport League have their new album ready to go. The longplayer is entitled ‘Kaiserschnitt’ and if it took some doing, we don’t know. A sure thing though is the fact that recording an album these days isn’t an easy undertaking and it needs an extra effort to make such a longplayer happen.... Continue Reading →

CD review DVNE ‘Etemen Ænka’
Dvne is a very interesting band. The guys from Edinburgh started in 2013 as Dune, inspired by the sci-fi epic 'Dune' by Frank Herbert, before renaming the band into Dvne. After having published two EP’s the debut hit the shelves in 2017. ‘Ashersa’ is the name of this first album that acted as a springboard... Continue Reading →
CD review EYEHATEGOD ‘A History of Nomadic Behavior’
Six years after 'EyeHateGod', Mike Williams, Jimmy Bower, Gary Mader and Aaron Hill are back with a new album. 'A History of Nomadic Behavior' is the heading under which twelve new songs see the light of day. Well, to call it 'light' is perhaps not quite accurate, because what the quartet delivers is rather the... Continue Reading →

CD review -(16)- ‘Dream Squasher’
'Dream Squasher' is not for the faint-hearted. Extremely down-tuned guitars create a wall of riffs in grey and cold concrete. This album is a musical monolith that can't be discovered after listening to it. 'Dream Squasher' needs several rounds to unfold its intensity and musical creativity. And after that a little bit of sunlight is surely not bad either.
CD review ALKYMIST ‘Sanctuary’
'Sanctuary' is an album, which shines by its intensity. The four danes manage to create sound collages which are dark and melancholic. On the other hand, they also manage to give the whole sound expression a certain lightness every now and then, which makes this longplayer to an interesting journey through varied worlds of gloom. I was impressed by 'Sanctuary' and maybe even a little bit of Danish happiness was spilling over to me.
CD review LOVIATAR ‘Lightless’
'Lightless' is a well-done counterpart to the brighter days of spring. The quartet paints a claustrophobic musical picture with a lyrical concept, inspired by authors like Emile Zola and Thomas Ligotti. If you want to discover the depth of darkness, 'Lightless' is the album you should listen to.
