CD review ENSLAVED ‘Utgard’
The Northmen return with a new album called 'Utgard', three years after 'E' was shipped from Norway to the rest of the world. 'Utgard', the outerworld, has its roots in Nordic mythology. There is with Midgard the area of humans and there is Asgard, where the Gods are at home. Utgard is beyond the two,... Continue Reading →
CD review FINNTROLL ‘Vredesvärd’
The Metal trolls are back and different to the internet trolls these ones are very welcome. It’s Finntroll that launch their next longplayer in September, a next chapter of a story, Somnium and Katla probably didn’t have in mind when founding the band in a rehearsal room back in 1997. Deviating from traditional Black Metal,... Continue Reading →
CD review UADA ‘Djinn’
Slowly but steady, UADA's fansbase is growing, mainly due to great musical craftsmanship that's so far reflected on two longplayers. UADA was funded in 2014 and debuted two years later with 'Devoid of Light'. 'Cult of a Dying Sun' was the next strike from the Portland-based quartet and sticking to a 'every second year' release... CD review GAEREA ‘Limbo’
After Portuguese Gaerea premiered in 2018 with 'Unsetting Whipsers' the band received a lot of positive feedback, which has been the springboard for the quintet to further evolve. What certainly helped guys from Oporto was inking a deal with Season Of Mist. With the support of the new label the guys started to work on... Continue Reading →
CD review THE RITE ‘Liturgy of the Black’
In summary, we can say that The Rite have achieved a very solid start with this album. Thanks to a tight groove, the songs are instantly memorable and will continue to fascinate even after listening to them several times. 'Liturgy of the Black' is an album I can recommend, no doubt.

CD review VAMPIRE ‘Rex’
If the third album is still the deciding factor for the future development of a band remains open, but the past shows that these albums are at least a kind of indicator. Gothenburg's Vampire are approaching this crossroads with 'Rex'. Founded in 2011 the band of Command, Hand Of Doom, Black String, Abysmal Condor and... Continue Reading →

CD review FORGOTTEN TOMB ‘Nihilisitc Estrangement’
Forgotten Tomb hail from Italy and are the brainschild of bandleader Herr Morbid. What started as a one-man-project developed and grew in the meantime into a trio. In 2003 Algol and Asher joined Forgotten Tomb and in this line-up the Italians released numerous albums until today. Their latest work is called 'Nihilistic Estrangement' and includes... CD review NAGLFAR ‘Celecloth’
It is countless years ago that Naglfar released their latest studio album. 'Téras' escaped the purgatory in 2012 and since then there was not much new material of Naglfar's Swedish Black Metal to be heard. This is changing right now, because with 'Cerecloth' a new record is in the starting blocks. Naglfar's seventh album to... Continue Reading →
CD review WITCHCRAFT ‘Black Metal’
I think that most people don't think of an acoustic album when reading 'Black Metal'. Black metal, that stands for Venom and their cult album and/or for a genre with all its gloom and musical purgatory. At least as far as darkness is concerned, the new Witchcraft album makes a good contribution to the grayer... Continue Reading →
CD review ORANSSI PAZUZU ‘Mestarin kynsi’
This album is a challenge for fans of traditional Heavy Metal. It stresses the framework. For some, Oranssi Pazuzu created a masterpiece and for others it's a total 'no way'-album. I like the approach of the band to break the chains of standard musical formulas but I also have to admit that I needed to take in the album step by step.
