CD review STORMHAMMER ‘Seven Seals’

(7/10) ‘Seven Seals’ is Stormhammer’s 7th album and it comes with 11 songs. That’s the numbers part and now let’s have a look into the musical offer. ‘Seven Seal’ is thematically built on the myth of the Sri-Padmanabhaswamy temple in India and the unopened chamber that’s protected by seals.

This is the lyrical concept and it’s melodic metal that delivers the musical framing. Stormhammer, that’s melodic vocal lines and typical Power Metal riffing, a kind of standard pattern that’s not very new. Sing-a-log parts with a lot of “Hej, Hej, Hej” are present (‘Previal’) and a soulful power ballad (‘Taken By the Devil’) can’t be missed either. As a contrast Stormhammer shifts gears with the uptempo ‘Your Nemesis’ and it’s ‘One More Way’ that became even heavier and thrashier than most of the rest. You can hear the effort the guys put into each of the eleven songs, all very solid, but also not much more.

To conclude, ‘Seven Seals’ is technically OK, which also includes the sound of this longplayer. It’s solid German Power Metal that’s well done but more a ‘wind’ than a ‘storm’.
