CD review ROCK GODDESS ‘This Time’

(8/10) This spring brings some new albums from all-girl bands that started way back in time. German Rosy Vista debuts after more than three decades and here comes the new album of Rock Goddess, a longplayer full of rock solid metal.

Rock Goddess is rooted in the late 70’s when the Turner sisters Jody and Julie founded this rock outfit. Things gained speed, some chart entries could be scored and it was no less than legendary Chris Tsangarides who produced Rock Goddess sophomore release ‘Hell Hath No Fury’.

After parting ways in 1987 the band returned in 2013, played some live shows and was overwhelmed by the positive feedback they got. All this led to a new EP that saw the light of day in 2017, followed by a brand new record, entitled ‘This Time’.

Ten songs made it on this album, a longplayer that fully focusses on traditional heavy metal in all its beauty. ‘Are You Ready’ is the question, the opener puts on the table, and you better are prepared. The crushing metal song is just the beginning of a powerful metal trip that has with ‘Obsession’ a gloomy second leg.

Other highlights are ‘Why Do We Never Learn’ with its galloping rhythm and also the calmer ‘Drive Me Away’ shows the beauty of this longplayer. Rock Goddess picks it up where they left off in the late ’80s. Great metal music the oldschool way, that’s what this album offers and it’s worth to take the offer.
