CD review SOEN ‘Lykaia Revisited’

(*/10) Swedish progressive metallers Soen released their third album, ‘Lykaia’ in the beginning of 2017 and it’s in late summer 2018 when the quintet will launch an extended version, entitled ‘Lykaia Revisited’. If this new edition of the album makes sense or nonsense is what each of you has to decide individually.

What I can state though is that the original album comprises of tracks, which are outstanding. The album scored nine points on MHMB and nothing changed. The album’s still fascinating from many aspects. The remastering, which all the songs went through, helped to unfold their beauty in an even better way. As an extra, ‘Lykaia Revisited’ includes three live songs – two that have been recorded during a show in Lisbon and one comes from a concert Soen played in Rome. These live recordings come with a good sound and are authentic in their expression.

‘Lykaia Revisited’ grew out of Soen’s wish to add an extra touch to the original songs after having played them live quite often. In case you missed the ‘Lykaia’ album it’s this version you should go for as being a fan of progressive metal and rock music.
