Review LIAR THIEF BANDIT ‘Diamonds’ – EP

Liar Thief Bandit hail from Malmö, Sweden and have delivered with ‘Deadlights’ a very good album. ‘Deadlights’ was already the third record of the three Swedes and gave them, after a modest entry in 2015, a broader reputation.

These days, the trio’s latest work record hits the stores. Liar Thief Bandit have named the record ‘Diamonds’ and it does indeed feature seven musical diamonds in the rough.

The new songs seamlessly pick up where the guys ended with ‘Deadlights’. Hard and raw rock songs, inspired by the music of the 70s and refined by the sound of the 90s are what the trio rocks through in 27 minutes loaded with power and energy.

The result of the work of the group is impressive. Already at the beginning of the record it becomes evident with ‘Peace With Disaster’ that the power of the riff is in the foreground on this album. The song is a rough and at the same time a hook-laden track that shows the band’s potential. Liar Thief Bandit have a very distinctive sense for good melodies, which they provide with rough edges. This makes tunes like ‘Harm Reduction’ catchy ones, not drowning in the triviality of a smoothly polished production. It is the organic element in the sound of the three-piece, which pleases.

Also worth mentioning is the crashing and ferocious ‘The Art of Losing Battles’ where it’s impossible to stand still. This track has the potential to make future concerts rock.

With more than 5 minutes of running time, the closing of ‘Diamonds’ is unusually long. Nevertheless, Liar Thief Bandit do not lose themselves in details but create a rather dark finale with a lot to discover. While melancholy sets the tone at the beginning, the track develops into the expected rocker in the second half, without losing the basic pattern.

Liar Thief Bandit manage to continue their exciting journey through the world of rock music with their new EP and it would be more than surprising if they couldn’t attract new fans because of ‘Diamonds’. Mycket bra Liar Thief Bandit.
